Charles Sobhraj was arrested on many occasions and also escaped from prison in several countries, and his propensity for evading the authorities earned him the nickname “The Serpent.”

The 2021 eight-part crime drama series; “The Serpent” on BBC One and Netflix detail Sobhraj’s alleged murders. It tells how for years, he evaded the law across Asia as he allegedly drugged, robbed, and murdered backpackers.

Charles Sobhraj was apprehended by the Nepal Police in 2003 and was given a life sentence for murdering an American national in Nepal in 1975. He was freed after Nepal’s top court on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, ordered his release on the grounds of his age and health.

“Charles Sobhraj is suffering from a heart disease and needs open-heart surgery”, the court said. On Friday, December 23, 2022, he was released and put on a flight at Kathmandu airport to take him to Paris via Doha

Charles Sobhraj is married to Nihita Biswas, a lawyer, and a Nepal advocate. She was famous for being the 2nd wife of Charles Sobhraj alias the Bikini Killer a.k.a the Serpent. The pair got married in 2008.

Charles Sobhraj’s first wife was called Marie-Andree Leclerc. The two met in Thailand in 1975. Marie was a medical secretary from Quebec, Canada, and became an accomplice in Sobhraj’s drugging and murder spree.

In 1976, she was arrested alongside Sobhraj in India, although she denied that she had ever taken part in any of Sobhraj’s crimes and hadn’t known that he was murdering people.
