During his teenage years, Charlie Hunnam was involved in rugby football and engaged in fights with his classmates. Instead of pursuing higher education, he opted to study performing arts at the Cumbria College of Art and Design in Carlisle, where he obtained a dual degree in film theory, film history, and performing arts. Hunnam had aspirations of writing and directing his own films.

Charlie Hunnam has opened up about having dyslexia and a fear of germs and dirt. In 2016, he began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Rigan Machado and earned his blue belt in October 2018.

While Hunnam has experienced notable successes, he has also encountered notable changes in his career. He was cast as Raleigh Becket in Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi film Pacific Rim in 2013 but withdrew from the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey due to scheduling conflicts with Sons of Anarchy. He has collaborated with del Toro again in the horror film Crimson Peak. Hunnam portrayed Percy Fawcett in The Lost City of Z, directed by James Gray, and took on the title role in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. In recent years, he appeared in The Gentlemen and Last Looks.

In 2022, Charlie Hunnam starred in the mystery/thriller Last Looks and made his debut on Apple TV+ in the series Shantaram. He is also set to appear in Director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix project Rebel Moon alongside Djimon Hounsou and Sir Anthony Hopkins. The epic space opera is scheduled for release on Netflix in December 2023, with a limited theatrical release being planned.
