Goedert was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 49th overall position in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Eagles moved up in the second round, ahead of the Dallas Cowboys (50th overall), to take Goedert by trading their second (52nd overall) and fifth (169th overall) round picks to the Indianapolis Colts.

Draft pundits conjectured that the Dallas Cowboys, who were lacking a tight end after James Hanna and veteran Jason Witten retired, may select Goedert in the first round.

Goedert was chosen as a replacement for Brent Celek, who the Eagles released on March 13, 2018, and was the third tight end drafted in 2018.

Goedert signed a four-year, $5.62 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 9, 2018, which includes a $2.90 million guaranteed and a $2.17 million signing bonus.

Goedert recorded four receptions for 65 yards during the 34-17 victory that secured the NFC East title for the Eagles for the second time in three seasons. The game was a must-win for the Eagles against the New York Giants.

Goedert ended with 607 yards and five touchdowns on 58 receptions during the regular season. During a 17-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round, Goedert had seven receptions for 76 yards.
