She was a British fashion designer and fashion icon. Before Dame Mary Quant established her brand, she was taken on as an apprentice to a milliner before making her own clothes.

In the 1950s, she bagged a diploma in art education at Goldsmiths College, where she met her husband Alexander Plunket Greene, who later helped establish her brand.

In 1955 Mary Quant set up her first store, Bazaar, on King’s Road in London’s Chelsea and eventually became one of the most influential figures in the fashion scene of the 1960s

She was also best known as the British designer who made miniskirts fashionable and her self-designed logo; a black and white daisy appeared on the packaging for her clothes.

Sleeveless shift dresses, PVC raincoats, Peter Pan collars, skinny-rib sweaters, block-colored tights, and jumpsuits were also among Dame Mary’s revolutionary designs.

In 2022, Mary was appointed a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in the New Year Honours list.

Sadly, the renowned British fashion icon has died. She passed away at the age of 93 at her home in Surrey, UK on Thursday, April 13, 2023

A statement from her family said she “died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning. She was one of the most internationally recognized fashion designers of the 20th Century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties”.
