Ed Reed Children: Meet Edward Reed – Ed Reed is a former American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He was born on September 11, 1978, in St. Rose, Louisiana.

Reed attended Destrehan High School where he played football and was a three-sport athlete. He then went on to play college football at the University of Miami.

Reed was a standout player for the Hurricanes, earning First-Team All-Big East honors three times and being named a consensus All-American in 2000 and 2001. He also won the 2001 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is awarded to the best defensive player in college football.

In 2002, Reed was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Ravens for 11 seasons, from 2002 to 2012. During that time, he established himself as one of the best safeties in the league and one of the greatest defensive players in the Ravens’ franchise history.

Reed quickly made an impact in the NFL, earning the starting safety job as a rookie. He went on to make the Pro Bowl in his first season, and he continued to earn Pro Bowl honors every season from 2004 to 2010. He was also named to the First-Team All-Pro team five times, and he was a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team.

Reed’s most productive years were in 2004 and 2008, where he was able to intercept nine passes in each season, and he was able to lead the NFL in interceptions in both seasons. He was also able to lead the NFL in interception return yards in 2004 with 358 yards. He was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, and he was also named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLVII.

Off the field, Reed was known for his philanthropy and community involvement. He established the Ed Reed Foundation, which provides support for youth programs and education initiatives in Baltimore and his hometown of New Orleans. He also supported several other charitable causes and organizations, including the United Way and the March of Dimes.

After 11 seasons with the Ravens, Reed signed with the Houston Texans for the 2013 season. He played one season with the Texans before being released. He then signed with the New York Jets for the 2014 season, but he was later released during the season. He then announced his retirement from the NFL in 2015.

Reed’s career statistics include 64 interceptions, 1,590 return yards, and 7 touchdowns. He also recorded 473 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. He is considered one of the best safeties in NFL history and one of the greatest defensive players to ever play for the Baltimore Ravens.

After his retirement, Reed stayed connected to the game, serving as an analyst for CBS Sports, ESPN, and the NFL Network. He also coached at his alma mater, the University of Miami, as a defensive backs coach for the Hurricanes.
