Malcolm Young played guitar for AC/DC for 37 years, touring the world with the group with little interruptions from 1973 until his final live performance in June 2010.

Up until his self-imposed exit from the band in 2014, when his nephew Stevie took his place once more, he carried on penning songs for AC/DC.

A band member revealed during the recording of their album Power Up that the group was using recordings from 2003, which were made even before Malcolm passed away.

Australian punk rock band Frenzal Rhomb wrote a song and album titled “Forever Malcolm Young” in 2006, which focused on him.

The Gretsch G6131MY, a trademark guitar designed by Young and based on his modified 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird, was released by Gretsch guitars in 2017.

Eddie Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Billy Idol, Paul Stanley of Kiss, Joe Walsh, Joe Satriani, Def Leppard, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Foo Fighters, Alice Cooper, Muse, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, and many more released tributes to Young on the day of his passing.

On the day of or shortly after Young’s demise, many of these performers paid tribute to him by covering an AC/DC song at their shows.
