The Phoenix Coyotes picked Domi with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Tie’s father was a former player for the team when it was still known as the Winnipeg Jets (the team would move to Phoenix in 1996).

Domi and Phoenix agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal on July 14, 2013. Don Maloney, general manager of the Coyotes, verified rumors among fans by claiming that he bought prospect Anthony Duclair from the New York Rangers in the hopes that he would form a good line with Domi.

This occurred as a result of the fact that both Duclair and Domi showed synergy during the 2015 World Junior Ice Hockey Tournament and were instrumental in helping Team Canada win the gold medal.

The pair earned the moniker “The Deadly D’s” in their first NHL season thanks to Domi and Duclair’s quick line synergy. On October 9, 2015, against the Los Angeles Kings, Domi recorded his first goal and assist in the NHL. Jonathan Quick was the opponent.

Domi was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens on June 15, 2018, in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk. Domi extended his deal with Montreal for two more years and $6.3 million the day after.

On September 19, during a preseason game against the Florida Panthers, Domi sucker punched Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, which led to Domi’s ban for the rest of the preseason.

On October 3, 2018, Domi contributed two assists in the Canadiens’ 3-2 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the season’s first game. Domi’s first goal for Montreal came in a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on October 17.

With 72 points at the completion of the 2018–19 campaign, he became the first Canadiens player since Tomá Plekanec in 2009–10 to record 70 points or more in a single campaign.

Domi and a third-round selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft were exchanged for forward Josh Anderson by the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 6, 2020. On October 7, Domi and the Blue Jackets agreed to a two-year, $10.6 million contract deal.

Domi was traded by the Blue Jackets to the Carolina Hurricanes via the Florida Panthers in a three-team trade on March 21, 2022, while still in the penultimate season of his contract with the Blue Jackets.

The club progressed into the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs for a first-round clash with the Boston Bruins after recording two goals and five assists in nineteen regular season games with the Hurricanes.

In the team’s 3-2 victory over the Bruins to win the series, Domi stood out by tallying two goals and providing the key assist on a third.

It was hailed as Domi’s best game to that moment by several observers. On the first day of free agency in 2022, Domi signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. Domi was dealt by the Blackhawks to the Dallas Stars on March 2nd, 2023.
