Gregg Berhalter children-American football coach, Gregg Matthew Berhalter was born on August 1, 1973.

Berhalter was born in Englewood, New Jersey in the United States of America t o Delores Berhalter and Joseph Berhalter and grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey.

He attended Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, where he played basketball with Claudio Reyna.

At the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, he played collegiate soccer. He played with the Raleigh Flyers of the USISL in 1993 during the university off-season. Baseball legend Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox’s godson is Berhalter.

Gregg Berhalter career

After his junior year, Berhalter quit UNC and joined the Zwolle soccer team in the Netherlands. Later, he played for Crystal Palace in England where he temporarily played alongside Jovan Kirovski, Sparta Rotterdam and SC Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Netherlands, where they later had American-born CEO Alex Pama. He scored once while playing for Crystal Palace, against Bradford City.

Berhalter signed a contract with Bundesliga team Energie Cottbus in 2002. He continued to play for the squad, making 111 league appearances, and served as captain as they won promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Berhalter joined TSV 1860 Munich of the 2. Bundesliga in 2006 and was made the team’s captain. In April 2009, Berhalter returned to the United States after a 15-year stint in Europe. His first club contract in his own nation was with Major League Soccer, which he signed.

He scored in the 103rd minute of the scoreless Western Conference final on November 14, 2009, helping the Galaxy defeat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 and advance to the 2009 MLS Cup. In 28 games for the team, it was his first goal.

At the end of the 2011 Major League Soccer season, Berhalter announced his retirement on October 12, 2011.

On December 12, 2011, Berhalter was appointed head coach of the Swedish team Hammarby IF after serving as the Los Angeles Galaxy’s assistant coach for a season.

The team was competing in Superettan, the second division, at the time. Berhalter was not the first American to ever lead a professional soccer team in Europe, despite the widespread notion to the contrary.

Thomas Dooley was the first American to ever serve as the head coach of a professional soccer team in Europe. He oversaw 1. FC Saarbrücken in the 2002–2003 campaign.

On July 24, 2013, Berhalter was let go for “lack of attacking play”. When Hammarby was fired, he was in eighth place.

On November 6, 2013, Berhalter was appointed the Columbus Crew’s sporting director and head coach.

In 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 the Columbus Crew SC made the playoffs under Berhalter. They competed in the 2015 MLS Cup, but they fell to the Portland Timbers 2-1 at home.

Berhalter took over as the US national team’s head coach on December 2nd, 2018. On January 27, 2019, he defeated Panama in a friendly match to record his first win as a coach.

At the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup on August 1, Berhalter led the United States to a continental victory.

At TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 12, 2021, Berhalter steered the United States to a 2-0 victory against rival Mexico in World Cup Qualifying. The team consequently earned a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and advanced to the round of 16.

Gregg Berhalter has four children with his wife, Rosalind Berhalter. The names of his children are; Delilah, Lily, Santana and Sebastian who plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
