The death of the former WWE star was announced on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in a post on his verified Instagram account.

“This is to confirm the sad news about our beloved Meatsauce God and Wrestling Superstar Virgil/Michael Jones has passed away. There is so much to say here and would love to share stories but for now it’s a rough day as our friend is gone. We would only ask at this time to remember him as the man that he was,” the post continued. “Wishing him all the unlimited pasta in heaven. We love you Mike.”

At the time Michael Jones died in February 2024, he had an estimated net worth of $2 million. He started in WWE as the bodyguard for the Ted DiBiase, in the late 1980s.

Jones, who was born in the US state of Pennsylvania, started wrestling professionally in the mid-1980s under the name Soul Train Jones.

He debuted with the WWF, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), in 1986 and rebranded himself as Lucius Brown, which was later changed to Virgil.

This persona as the bodyguard for Ted DiBiase, known as The Million Dollar Man, launched him into fame and lasted several years.

He would run interference for DiBiase, often taking beatings from babyfaces as DiBiase would run to safety.

Jones was not a frequent in-ring competitor and served mainly in the bodyguard/manager role, though he did occasionally compete.
