Sherry Holmes matriculated from a high school in Ontario, and then travelled across Canada, often changing jobs before she settled down and began working with her father.

Sherry Holmes grew up in Ontario where she was raised by her father Mike Holmes Sr. who is a builder, contractor, and TV personality, and her mother Alexandra who is a housewife.

Her parents divorced before she turned 10, and she was later raised by her father and his girlfriend Anna.

Sherry Holmes has a brother named Holmes Jr. and a sister called Amanda.

In 2006, Mike founded The Holmes Foundation which is there to help those in poverty who cannot afford to have their houses fixed and renovated – this led to him being recognized in Canada’s House of Commons in the same year. 

In 2002 when Sherry was 15, she had a CT scan which showed that she had a brain tumor – doctors reacted quickly and she underwent life-saving surgery in the same week.

Sherry Holmes found her first steady job in 2008, when she began working for the Make It Right Foundation, which is owned by noted American actor Brad Pitt. When she and her family first joined the organization, they were helping those who were left without a roof over their heads after everything was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

She started building and repairing houses, together with her father and her brother and decided it was the right job for her to become a residential builder.

In 2012, the entire family launched a show together entitled “Holmes Makes it Right” – it counted two seasons and 36 episodes before it stopped airing in 2014. Sherry Holmes’ father Mike previously had another show called “Holmes on Homes”, which aired from 2001 to 2009 – Shelly appeared in three episodes in 2007, while she was also the show’s production assistant for 31 episodes from 2005 to 2009.

Starting in 2009, Mike and his family launched another show called “Holmes Inspection”, which has been airing ever since, with Sherry appearing in 46 episodes from 2009 to 2012.

For a while, Sherry was rumoured to be dating Damon Bennett, a fellow builder who has also appeared in every show Mike has launched, however, these rumours turned out to be false after Sherry announced she was dating Blake Steed.

Blake Steed is a builder as well; the two met in 2012 when they had an opportunity to work together. Sherry and the rest of the team were rebuilding High Park’s castle playground located in Toronto, and as they were at risk of breaking the deadline, they hired a framing company to help with the project.

One of the framers was Blake, and Sherry described him as “…pretty quiet, but I remembered his name as soon as I met him. We became friends while working on different projects, eventually started dating secretly, and somehow ended up moving in together before we even realized it.”

They married on their fifth anniversary on 12 December 2018 in St. Lucia – they chose “Then” by Brad Paisley as their first dance song, and part of the song goes “I can just see you, with a baby on the way”.

Sherry Holmes and Blake found out that she was pregnant shortly after they picked the song, and announced they were expecting at the wedding, later revealing that it was a girl.

Sherry’s first child, Cali Kay Holmes Steed, was born on the 21st of April 2019. She welcomed her second baby, Oaklyn Summer, on 6th October 2021.
