Danza was a professional boxer with a record of nine wins and three defeats, nine knockouts seven of which came in the first round, and three technical knockouts. All but one of his matches ended in knockouts.

Immediately following his University of Dubuque graduation, Danza was spotted by a producer at a New York boxing gym.

Then he landed a role on the TV series Taxi as Tony Banta, a cab driver and occasional boxer, and went on to star in Who’s the Boss? as Tony Micelli, a former baseball player, housekeeper, and single parent.
